Today, two CERC teams had the incredible opportunity to compete at the UK National Finals of the World Robot Olympiad 2026 in Leicester, achieving outstanding success and earning the chance to represent the UK on the international stage.
Our Robot Mission Elementary Team - Katy, Tala, and Alex - delivered an exceptional performance, securing second place with an impressive score of 125 points. The team also received a special award recognising their outstanding professionalism and teamwork throughout the competition. Their achievement has earned them the opportunity to compete at the International World Robot Olympiad in Puerto Rico or at one of the Open World Robot Olympiad tournaments in Croatia, San Francisco, or India.
Our Future Innovators Junior Team - Johan and Niel - won their age category with their innovative project, Vision2Touch, which translates sign language into Braille. They also achieved the highest overall score across all UK Future Innovators teams, regardless of age category. In addition, they received the Best Presentation Award for their compelling demonstration of how Vision2Touch addresses the communication gap between sign language and Braille users. Their next destination is the International World Robot Olympiad in Puerto Rico this December.
The event was a fantastic celebration of innovation and STEM, attended by distinguished guests including Liz Kendall, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology; Michael Kapur, Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire and His Majesty The King's official representative; Teresa Aldred, High Bailiff of Leicester; and Professor Mark Schäfer, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Science and Engineering.
As part of the event, all participants also had the opportunity to visit Leicester's Space Research Centre, making the day even more memorable.
Congratulations to all of our CERC teams on their remarkable achievements. A heartfelt thank you to the parents, coaches, and supporters who made this success possible, and to Stempura for organising such an inspiring event. We wish our teams the very best as they prepare to represent the UK on the world stage.
